AMATA 2010: Tasmanian Devil Genome Map Announced
What better place to announce the successful genome mapping of the Tasmanian Devil than in Tasmania. At the recent AMATA 2010 conference in Hobart, Dr Elizabeth Murchinson of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK) reported on their investigations into the genome sequence of 'the devil'. The results of this research will lead to an increased knowledge of the genetic background of this endangered species and allow for strategies to deal with the aggressive facial tumour now affecting over 60% of the Tasmanian Devil found in the wild.
